We’re looking to hire an engineer, based at our offices in Newbury, with significant overseas travel. The successful candidate should be qualified as a chemical/process engineer and have experience in designing and troubleshooting water treatment systems for oil and gas production facilities.

The position will include project managing front end engineering (FEED) studies, including feasibility designs, screening studies, conceptual design studies and troubleshooting analyses. It may also involve engineering review projects on a third-party consultative basis.


  • Design of process control systems, with emphasis on water treatment and injection
  • Specialist support during installation and commissioning work on-site, both onshore and offshore
  • Plant operation audits and troubleshooting at both onshore and offshore sites
  • Provide support to Oil Plus’s chemistry and microbiology consultants during site audits and other studies – this may involve simple fluid quality monitoring
  • Comply with client working procedures; including working hours, work permit system and other health, safety and environmental (HSE) requirements
  • Undertake training courses for operators
  • Interpreting a variety of data and analysing results
  • Developing databases to track and organise information
  • Providing data and feedback to clients
  • Run consultancy contracts, and be responsible for budget control, time and resources (CTR) and invoicing
  • Using written sources of information, such as journals and the internet, as part of the research process
  • Writing technical reports and papers for journals
  • Giving presentations at conferences and other events
  • Keeping up to date with developments and new research
  • Assist the sales department in the generation of technical proposals and budgets when requested
  • Look for opportunities to expand Oil Plus’s work-scope for any given project, and to identify new projects
  • Where appropriate, work towards becoming a member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers and a Chartered Engineer


  • A BSc or PhD in chemical or process engineering
  • Experience in screening, feasibility, concept select and FEED studies
  • Review data, drawings, specifications etc. from client and validate them
  • Review and respond to Technical Queries as required
  • Ability to produce documentation including: equipment specifications, data sheets, case studies, process diagrams including PFD’s and PID’s, heat and material balance, basis of design, control philosophy and operating manuals for a selected system
  • Site experience including plant/equipment audit, installation and commissioning work on-site, both onshore and offshore
  • Methodical approach for analysing process issues and collating data
  • Knowledge of tender bid process, estimating man hours and costs for sales team
  • Leading or assisting multi-disciplined teams and liaising with client and vendors
  • Project management and budget control
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • A pro-active attitude and a willingness to carry out roles not normally part of the day to day work activities for other teams
  • Intermediate/advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and project management tools
  • Basic knowledge in AutoCAD is essential to enable simple diagrams to be generated or undertake minor modifications to drawings
  • Good presentation skills for delivery of project results to clients and at industry forums and conferences
  • Exposure to international codes and standards
  • Must be prepared to travel within the working day and overnight absence from home at short notice
