Laboratory Technician

We are looking to recruit a permanent laboratory technician to work in our Newbury facilities. The successful candidate should have working experience in physical and inorganic chemistry, microbiology and general laboratory safety procedures.

Responsibilities

The position requires supporting the laboratory manager as well as assisting the technical team with analysis studies and support in research and development projects.

  • General laboratory housekeeping, weighing, measuring and content testing
  • Assisting the project team in delivering client deadlines; attending and participating in group and project meetings
  • Documenting daily test results, ensuring all data is correct
  • Calibration of certain pieces of laboratory and site equipment, such as coulter counters, infracal oil-in-water analyser’s, pH meters, conductivity meters, and turbidity meters
  • Booking-in, labelling, and storage of all samples/chemicals
  • Maintaining stock of laboratory consumables and chemicals; order preparation; verifying receipt
  • Unpacking and cleaning of site equipment
  • Assisting with the preparation of documentation for the disposal of waste chemicals
  • Maintaining records for quality assurance purposes
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications

Requirements

  • A degree in Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry is preferred but will consider HNC or HND in Chemistry or another degree in Science
  • General analytical chemistry knowledge is essential
  • Must be able to plan and organise allocated tasks/projects
  • Significant experience with laboratory practices and/or laboratory quality control/ assurance
  • Good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills; self-motivated and able to work effectively under pressure
  • Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team as well as independently is essential
  • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry is an advantage but not essential, as training is provided
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
