Instrument/Calibration Technician

We are looking to recruit a permanent Instrument / Calibration Technician to work in our Newbury facilities. The successful candidate should have proven experience within the Oil & Gas, Chemical, Marine, Pharmaceuticals, R&D or Water industries. They must also have an aptitude for mechanical/pneumatic and hydraulic engineering.

This position requires a HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or above.

Responsibilities

The person will report to the Laboratory Supervisor and be responsible for managing the day-to-day running of the workshop in compliance with our ISO 9001:2015 certification and HSE guidelines. The role will require liaising with the technical manager, and team of scientists and engineers on multi-discipline studies and ongoing research and development projects.

Varied duties include:

  • Planned and reactive maintenance and calibration activities on a variety of instrumentation and control systems for use in-house and on-site
  • System configuration and design to support various laboratory applications
  • Bespoke logic circuitry pneumatic / hydraulic – design, procure, manufacture
  • Liaise with sub-contractors for general fabrication and machining requirements
  • Preparation of various site equipment
  • Report any non-conforming instrumentation to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
  • Compile and maintain accurate records of calibrations including certificates, reports etc
  • General facilities maintenance
  • Fork Lift Truck
  • PAT testing at scheduled frequency
  • Ensure work complies with ISO 9001:2015 and other standards
  • Identify improvements to processes/procedures and update management accordingly
  • To maintain a clean, safe working environment and ensure that the Company’s Health & Safety policy is followed in relation to safe working procedures

Requirements

  • Minimum HNC Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  • Methodical approach
  • Experience in equipment calibration
  • Working knowledge Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, VISIO and AutoCAD etc
  • Analytical thinker with good organisation and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • A pro-active attitude and a willingness to carry out roles not normally part of the day to day work activities
  • Aptitude for self-development
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations
